This rainy episode of “Running Thoughts” was inspired by a conversation I had on LinkedIn with Geoff Woliner.
Geoff’s posts are usually satirical and comedic, but this week he broke from his usual to discuss something much deeper and more serious—how pain and the experience you go through will someday be a gift to others.
In his post, he shared what happened between him and a friend and talked about being “ghosted.” I took that as an invitation to run in a different direction, saying that this is my least favorite variety of trauma responses in others. (Not verbatim.)
This “Running Thoughts” is inspired by something Geoff said in his comments to me. It is as follows:
"And I mostly landed on a space where two things can be true (and probably are) at once.
That the behavior is neither conscious nor malicious, and is essentially a machine running a program
AND it's an incredibly cold, cruel way to live and to treat others; one that causes great psychological distress in its wake. And should be taken ownership of and fixed before moving onto wreak havoc on the next person to land in their crosshairs."
